Charles Bell

Football ∙ Beaver

Charles Bell began earning nationwide recognition as early as junior high as a member of three undefeated Beaver Junior High football teams. National publications like Sports Illustrated, Jet Magazine, and the Baltimore Courier reported the play in which one of Charles’ kickoffs left the stadium, estimated to travel over 100 yards. Charles continued to rack up headlines in high school, helping Beaver set a state consecutive game winning streak as a running back, defensive back, and kicker. He was honored with offensive and defensive All Conference awards his junior and senior year and in his senior year also was named All State, UP All American mention, and played in the Big 33 game. Charles also set high school track and field records in the broad jump (21’-3”) and the 100 yard low hurdles (13.1 seconds). Charles received tryouts with both New York NFL teams, signing with the Jets and playing for their minor league affiliate in Bridgeport, Connecticut, as a wide receiver and cornerback. After a year, Charles decided to resume his education and graduated from Greensboro College in 1993 with a double major in sociology and psychology, and later earned a master’s degree in human resource counseling from North Carolina A&T. He also attended the University of Southern California of Professional Studies to pursue a Juris Doctor degree. In addition, Charles served on the Greensboro City Council and coached Pop Warner football.
