Terry Borkovic

Coaching ∙ Hopewell

The first few seasons of Coach Terry Borkovic's career were average at best. But Coach Borkovic had a vision to see the Hopewell Lady Vikings Volleyball Program be elite in Pennsylvania. Mission accomplished!

As a lifelong resident of Beaver County, Terry Borkovic represents the pride that makes the county great. During his 26 seasons coaching the Hopewell Girls' Volleyball team, Terry coached the first Beaver County team to a WPIAL Championship in 2002, and in 2004 his team became the first and so far only Beaver County girls' volleyball team to win a PIAA state championship.

Under Terry's leadership, Hopewell Girls' Volleyball has become synonymous with winning. His lifetime section record of 297-97 includes 12 section championships and 10 undefeated seasons. From 2001 to 2009, Terry's Lady Vikings compiled a 97 section match winning streak.

Terry's teams qualified for the playoffs 16 consecutive years and amassed six WPIAL championships, including a run of four straight from 2002 to 2006. His teams won the Midwestern Athletic Conference tournament eight times. In addition to dominating Western Pennsylvania, Terry led his team to a State Championship in 2004, and his teams also earned two third-place and three fifth-place finishes at the state level. In all, Terry's girls' volleyball program compiled 32 tournament championships. If tournament wins are added to his record, Terry has won well over 300 matches. Overall, Terry has coached 16 all-state players.

Terry's illustrious coaching career boasts other noteworthy achievements. Terry has coached boys' volleyball for 23 seasons, and during that time his teams have appeared in the playoffs seven times. Early in his career at Hopewell, Terry was also an assistant boys' and girls' swimming coach, where the teams won a combined six section championships.

In 2013, Terry received the Rich Schall Lifetime Achievement Award from the Pennsylvania Volleyball Coaches Association, presented in recognition and appreciation for being a major contributor to Pennsylvania Volleyball.

Outside of coaching, Terry is a physical education teacher at Hopewell Area School District. During his tenure, he has served on the student assistance team and as the physical education department chair. Terry is the husband of Michele and father of Tara-Leigh. He currently lives in Economy Borough, where he enjoys kayaking, reading, attending sporting events, and working on his personal fitness.
