Cyril M. Jurkowski

Baseball ∙ Ambridge

Cyril M Jurkowski had a long lifetime love affair with baseball. Before helping to organize the Ambridge Little League in 1951, Cyril had a long career of his own as both a player and coach. He starred at Ambridge High School and, after graduating in 1931, was one of the top pitchers in Beaver County for teams like Conway AC, Leetsdale AC, and the Ambridge American Legion. He pitched for the Ambridge American Legion team that won the state title in 1945. After his playing days, Cyril was one of the organizers of the Ambridge Little League in 1951 and managed the Lions team for 36 years, with his teams winning 11 league championships and finishing as runners-up six times. In his 36 year tenure, he missed only two games, one due to a death in the family and the other for his 55th high school reunion. Cyril played with and against some of the best diamond stars in Beaver County, including Tom Diaddigo, Lefty Cepull, Joe Zerilla, and Paul Watson.
