A
1958 graduate of Monaca High School, Tom Alexander was a three year
football letterman, a team captain, and an All County and All WPIAL lineman and
linebacker. Tom also showed versatility by lettering in basketball and
baseball, earning eight letters overall in his scholastic career. Tom became one of the
all time Bucknell University greats. He was a two-way starter for
three years was and named Lineman of the Week, All Mid Atlantic, All East, second team All State, Little All American honorable
mention, All Sigma Chi All American, Bucknell's Most Courageous Senior
Athlete, and the Helms Foundation ROTC Athlete of the Year.
After
graduation, Tom served in the US Army in Europe where he played
football and was first team All Europe in 1963; he was invited to
play in the Europe All Star Game and earned second team All Army
honors. Tom began his 23-year coaching career in 1965 that included
an 11-year stint as head football coach of Center and as a line
coach at Hopewell and Ambridge. Tom was active in the Midwestern
Athletic Conference Coaches Association and served as Scholastic
Chairman. Bucknell honored Tom in 1966 by naming him as an offensive
guard on the Team for the Ages and in 1970 to the college's All Time
team. |
