Frank
Carver served the University of Pittsburgh from 1929 to 1974, with
most of his long career in the athletic department. After a career
as a star trackman at Beaver High, specializing in the high hurdles,
he went to Pitt and earned freshman track numerals there. His long
service to the University began in 1929 when he became student
assistant in the Athletic Publicity Office. Except for three years
of service with the Air Transport Command in World War II, he served
Pitt for 45 years as director of athletic publicity, graduate
manager of athletics, and athletic director from 1959 to 1968. Frank served five years as member of the
National Collegiate Athletic Association Council, three years as
member of the NCAA Executive Committee, one year as vice
president of the NCAA, one year as president of the
Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference, six years on the ECAC
council, five years as president of the Eastern Intercollegiate
Wrestling Association, and one year as president of the Eastern Intercollegiate
Gymnastic League for one year. |
