Having an athletic complex named after you is
quite an honor, but having the Quigley stadium renamed the Edwin D Driscoll
Athletic Complex is only the start of an effort to put Ed Driscoll’s
career in capsule form: he is Mr Quigley Athletics. After graduating
from North Catholic High School and Southern Illinois University, Ed
started his career at Quigley in 1969, serving at times as coach of
the football, baseball, and wrestling teams and as athletic director
for 28 years. His wrestling team has 253 wins, 19 state qualifiers,
23 WPIAL qualifiers, 29 WPIAL Section Champions, 17 MAC Champions,
and was the 1975-1976 MAC Wrestling Team Champion. Ed's teams have
competed in Germany, Ireland, Holland, and Belgium, and he was
chosen as the US Team coach for “Sports through Understanding,”
taking teams to Mexico and Australia. Ed's diamond teams had 266
career wins and 17 first team All Section selections. In 1985 and
1987 Ed was selected Section Baseball Coach of the Year, and his
baseball teams
have traveled to Belgium, Holland, and Germany. Ed has also served
as Keystone State Games Coach, Regional Director, and State
Director. |
