After first picking up a club at age
six, Jodi Figley Renner’s
ascension to the top of women’s golf was dramatic: by 14 she was
already winning titles. In her days at Hopewell High School, Jodi
won the WPIAL golf crown all four years and won the state title in
her freshman and junior seasons, becoming the first ever two time
golf champion in Pennsylvania high school play. Jodi won over 40
tournaments in the American Junior Golf Association and in 1987 was
named AJGA first team All American and Sportsman of the Year. She
played in six consecutive US Women’s Amateur Championships from 1985
to 1990. Jodi attended Stanford University and was ranked second in
the nation among freshman in 1987. She was a two time All American
and three time Academic All American at Stanford, and as a senior
led the school to its best ever finish in the NCAA, finishing sixth.
Individually, Jodi finished in the Top 20 in all four of her NCAA
championships, including eighth as a senior. After graduating with a
3.7 grade point average and a degree in Human Biology, Jodi turned pro. With eight Top
10 finishes, including two wins and two runners-up, Jodi was first
on the Futures Tour Money List in 1992 and was named tour Player of
the Year. In 1994 Jodi attained full time LPGA status and was
fourth in Rookie of the Year standings. She competed in 44 LPGA
tournaments, including the US Open, over the next two years. Jodi
competed on the Ladies’ Asian Golf Circuit in 1997 (as she did in
1993) as well as the Futures Tour before becoming an instructor in
1998. |
