Many Beaver County youth have made good in college athletics, but
none has gone further than Jimmy Frank. He was elected
president of the National Collegiate Athletic Association on January
1, 1981. Now known formally
as Dr James Frank, he has been president of his alma mater, Lincoln
University of Jefferson City, Missouri, since 1973. He graduated
from Lincoln with honors in 1953 and had served as basketball coach
there from 1958 to 1972. After that, James moved to Hunter
College in the Bronx, New York, where he served as Dean of Students.
Later he was vice president of Medgar Evers College, a four year
school of the City College of New York. James is best known in
Beaver County as the second leading scorer on Aliquippa’s High
School’s 1949 state championship basketball team. He was co-captain
of the Quips and was named All Section, All WPIAL, and second team
All State. |
