Vince Gratta has been a salesman all his life,
and the enthusiasm he shows for his profession carries over into
numerous sports and recreation activities that have been a lifelong
hobby for him. Vince resided in Hopewell Township for more than 36 years and
has been connected with a wide variety of athletic programs. He was a member of the Hopewell Quarterbacks since the 1960s, serving
in all the offices. Vince was a member of the committee that formed
the Hopewell Midget Football League and was involved in the original
Little League and Senior Baseball League. From 1964 to 1968 he
sponsored the Gratta Jetco team in the Senior League. He has served
as a master of ceremonies for Hopewell Quarterbacks banquets for
many years and has been chairman of many other sports banquets,
included banquet chairman for the Beaver County Sports Hall of Fame.
Fundraising is one of Vince’s specialties: he served on the
committee to raise funds for Hopewell’s Section 6 wrestling
champions and helped the Hopewell Football Mothers in their
projects, and he also assumed financial responsibility for Hopewell Legion
Baseball team for 15 years and was also assistant coach. In 1976 he
was inducted into the Greater Aliquippa Area Chamber of Commerce
Hall of Fame as Sportsman of the Year. Vince is a graduate of St
Veronica high school in Ambridge and served in the Air Force during
World War II. He was a salesman for the Jewel Tea Company for 24
years and later managed the Stop-N-Go store in Ambridge. He was a
salesman for Galton Ford in Hopewell for six years before joining
the sales staff at Crivelli Chevrolet in Vanport in 1980.
