Marques
Henderson lettered for three
seasons at Aliquippa High School, with the Quips making the WPIAL playoffs
each year, and playing for the title his junior and senior seasons.
Marques was an outstanding defensive back and the team’s leading
receiver, and he was twice named to the WPIAL’s Fabulous 22 All Star team
and as a senior was All State and Balley’s All American for his
defensive back play. Marques also lettered three times
for the Quip basketball team. As an honor student, Marques received
athletic and aca
demic scholarships to Penn State University. He did
not letter as a freshman as the Nittany Lions struggled through a
6-5 season and did not play in a bowl game, but as a sophomore Marques
was a valuable reserve on a team that went to the Orange Bowl and
was ranked No 1 in the nation. A 25-10 loss to Oklahoma cost Penn
State the national championship, but the team won it
all next year as Marques won honorable mention All East honors
during the Nittany Lion’s 12-0 season. As a senior Marques was named
co-captain and again earned All East honors, leading the Nittany
Lions in passes broken up (13) and was the CBS Television’s Toyota
Leadership Award winner for his performance against Syracuse. Penn
State finished 8-4 that season and played in the Citrus Bowl.
Marques’ college career concluded with a performance in the Japan
Bowl All Star Game. |
