Basketball has played a central role in the
daily life of Steve Lodovico for as long as he can remember.
Mentored under legendary coach
John Miller, as well as many
other influential coaches in the well-renowned Blackhawk
basketball program, Steve had a successful high school
career, winning a WPIAL Championship in 1996 and as a
starting guard winning two PIAA State Championships in 1995
and 1996.
From 1996 to 2000, Steve attended La Roche
College, where he continued playing basketball. As a
three-year starter and MVP of his senior season, Steve
continued to increase his basketball knowledge. It was
during his college years, inspired by his coach Scott Lang,
that Steve decided that he wanted to pursue coaching.
In 2005, Steve returned to Blackhawk to
take over as the head coach of the girls' basketball
program. He invested time in building the program at the
youth levels, and the program in recent years has been
reaping the benefits of these efforts with an amazing string
of accomplishments. Between 2011 and 2018, Steve guided the
Cougars to six section championships (2012-15, 2017-18),
three WPIAL titles (2011, 2014-15), and two state
championships (2014-15).
In recognition of Steve's coaching
success, Steve was named the Beaver County Times AAA Section
2 Coach of the Year four times (2012-15), Beaver County
Times Girls' Coach of the Year three times (2013-15), and
Pittsburgh Post-Gazette Coach of the Year in 2014. Steve
received his biggest honor being twice named the
Pennsylvania Girls' Coach of the Year (2014-15). Steve is
believed to be the only WPIAL coach to have won back-to-back
State Championships both as a player and as a coach. Steve
was selected to coach in the Roundball All-Star classic four
times (2011, 2014-15, and 2017).
As a coach, Steve continues the
long-standing Blackhawk tradition of developing players to
be knowledgeable and talented in basketball while having the
highest standards for sportsmanship and academics. Finishing
his 13th season, Steve has an overall record of 244-104, a
section record of 119-39, and a playoff record of 45-16.
Across the 2011 to 2015 seasons, the Cougars had an
astonishing record of 129-18.
Steve is an elementary teacher in the
Blackhawk School District and lives in Forward Township with
his wife Rebecca and their three children: Maya, Jase, and
Vinny. |
