Max
Mesing is the consummate golf professional: he even lived on a golf
course! Max’s lifelong love affair with the links began almost 50
years ago when he was growing up in Moon Township. He landed his
first job at age 7 as a ball retriever at the driving range at
Scally’s Golf Center, and from that point on Max was hooked. After a
four year stint in the Navy (1967-1971), Max decided to pursue golf
as his life’s work: he became a club pro at Swallow Golf and Country
Club in DeBary, Florida, and after competing in various mini-tours
decided to settle down in Western Pennsylvania. In the early 1980s,
he bought a rundown golf course on the banks of the Beaver River on
the outskirts of Beaver Falls and renamed it Fox Run, and in the
late 1990s he bought another course, Stonecrest, in New Beaver,
Lawrence County. Max won several tournaments as a player on the
local pro circuit, including the West Penn Open (1989) and the Tri
State Section PGA Senior Championship (1999). He also qualified for
and played in the 1999 US Senior Open. Max was named the Tri State
Golf Professional of the Year in 1992. |
