Dan
Oliastro accomplished something that no other Beaver County baseball
coach had done: win back to back state championships. (In fact, no
other school had won two state diamond titles, let alone consecutive
ones.) Dan
attended Ellwood City High School and in his senior year pitched a
no hitter against Canon-McMillan. He then graduated from Slippery
Rock University in 1965 and received a master’s degree from
Westminster College. Dan began teaching English and history at
Riverside and also accepted the assistant baseball position. After
three years, Ed Ellenich retired and Dan was promoted to manager. As
of 2007, Dan’s Riverside diamond teams have won nine section
championships, two WPIAL championships (1996, 2006), two state PIAA
Class AA titles (2005, 2006), and have compiled an overall 455-326
record. Dan was recognized by the National High School Baseball
Association for winning 400 games. After winning the state
championship in 2005, Dan was chosen WPIAL Coaches Association Class
AA Coach of the Year, and he received the award again after his next
state title in 2006. Besides his high school baseball duties, Dan
coached in Pony and Colt Leagues. |
