Pete
Pietrandrea coached three sports and produced championships in each.
He coached boys and won. He coached girls and won. And he has over
600 wins on his resume. A 1966 graduate of Lincoln High School in
Ellwood City, Pete graduated from Slippery Rock University and began
his coaching career as an assistant football coach at Midland High
School, finishing his gridiron coaching days as an assistant at
Monaca in 1993. In between those stints, Pete coached Riverside for
twelve years. He was on
Karl Florie’s staff that won a WPIAL
championship in 1985, and the Panthers also made several other
playoff appearances while Pete was on the staff. In 1981 Pete began
coaching the Riverside girls’ basketball team. The Lady Panthers had
zero wins in each of the previous two seasons, but within four years
were in the playoffs, eventually winning a section championship and
making the state playoffs. Pete also started the Riverside softball
program in 1981, and from 1983 to 1996 the Lady Panthers compiled a
235-17 record, winning a WPIAL title and becoming the first Beaver
County team to play for a state softball championship. In the
1996-1997 school year, Pete became coach for the Center girls’
basketball and softball teams, producing the school’s first
undefeated section championship on the hardwood and compiling a
164-42 record on the diamond, with 12 section championships, four
WPIAL titles, and three state championship appearances. |
