Like many youngsters on the sandlot football
fields of western Pennsylvania, Frank Pokorny dreamed of playing for
the Steelers. For Frank, a Center High School football star, it was
a dream that became reality. While playing for the Trojans from 1978
to 1980, Frank was a three year letterman and a starter at wide
receiver for two years. As a senior, he caught 32 passes, including
five for touchdowns and was named first team on the Midwestern
Athletic Conference All Star Team. After finishing his scholastic
career, Frank moved on to Youngstown State University on a football
scholarship, lettering three years at tight end, while starting as
a junior and senior. During his career with the Penguins, he caught
93 passes, including 12 for touchdowns and as a senior was named
first team All Ohio Valley Conference and was also an Honorable
Mention Division I-AA All American. After graduating from YSU, Frank
latched on with the Steelers as an undrafted free agent and spent
the 1985 and 1986 seasons with the Steelers, primarily as a special
teams player, before injuries cut short his career. |
