Otto Pritchard parlayed an excellent playing
career at Monaca High School and Geneva College into an excellent
coaching career at his high school alma mater. Otto was a three year
starter at Monaca and was All Section and co-captain in the
1952-1953 season when the Indians won the section title. Otto helped
Geneva become an NAIA power in the mid 1950s as they reached the
national tournament three consecutive years. The 1955-1956 team
finished 24-3 and were 61-19 during Otto’s three years as a
starter. Otto returned to Monaca as a teacher and took over
basketball coaching duties for the 1958-1959 season. He coached the
next 15 years as the Indians were perennial contenders, winning
three section titles with Otto receiving Coach of the Year
three times. The highlight of Otto’s career was the
1971-1972 squad that won the WPIAL title and lost the state
championship game to Darby-Colwin. His overall record was 219-120. He was assistant coach in the 1973 Dapper Dan Roundball Classic
in Pittsburgh.
