Bill Reigel was inducted into the Beaver
County Sports Hall of Fame for his long and successful career as a
basketball player and coach. At Monaca High School, he was named All
Conference and received All State honorable mention in 1950. He
played his freshman year of college basketball at Duke University
before putting in a year of military service in 1954. Bill played
his final two years of college basketball at McNeese State
University in Louisiana, where he earned the following honors in
1956: Small College Player of the Year; Most Valuable Player in the NAIA tourney won by McNeese
State; NAIAN, UPI, and Helms Foundation
All American; and leading scorer in the nation with a 33.9 per game
average. After college, Bill played for the Louisiana AAU and
Goodyear AAU cagers from 1957 to 1962 and also compiled a 300-61 record while coaching basketball for
Louisiana AAU, the Holland (MI) entry into the Midwestern
Professional basketball League, McNeese State, and Beecher and White
Clod High Schools in Michigan. Bill began his coaching career in
1957 with the Louisiana AAU team and completed it in 1978 at White
Cloud High, where he served as an English teacher.
