Reggie Smith began his athletic career at New
Brighton High School, where he was an accomplished a
three-sport athlete in football, basketball, and track and
field. Reggie's career continued at Robert Morris University
in track and field.
Following years of umpiring sandlot
baseball, in 1994 Reggie joined the PIAA as an umpire. In
1999, he became a member of the Beaver Valley Football and
Basketball Officials Association, and, two years later,
became a three-sport official when he joined the Beaver
County Baseball Umpires Association. In 2003, Reggie focused
his officiating career on football and joined the Tri-State
Officials Association and the Eastern Collegiate Football
Officials Association.
In 2004, Reggie was hired into the Arena2
Football League, under the guidance of the NFL, and was
assigned as a line judge (2004-5) and as a referee (2006).
Within two years, Reggie was promoted to the Arena Football
League, assigned as a back judge (2007-9) and as a referee
(2011-16). In 2005, Reggie was hired with Conference USA as
a supplemental official.
Reggie's NCAA Division I football
officiating career began as a supplemental official in
Conference USA (2005-8). In 2006, in addition to working in
Conference USA, Reggie worked as a side judge in the
Atlantic 10/Ivy and Patriot Leagues. In 2007, Reggie worked
the final season of NFL Europa as a side judge.
Reggie was hired in 2009 with the Big 12
Conference and Mountain West Conference, as a field judge
(2009-11) and assigned as a referee (2011-present). In 2010,
Reggie was selected to his first bowl, the Holiday Bowl
between Washington and Nebraska. Over the years, Reggie has
worked two Mountain West Conference Championships (2014,
2015) and seven bowl games, most notably as the Referee in
the 2016 Rose Bowl.
Reggie has served as the liaison between
West Virginia University and Big 12 Conference for
scheduling officials for practices and scrimmages, as well
as evaluating and advising potential Big 12 football
officiating applicants. In addition, Reggie has evaluated
the Big Sky Officials (FCS), providing feedback for training
and development. Reggie is also active nationwide as a
clinician at several camps and clinics dedicated to the
training and evaluations of officials ranging from high
school to small college.
Reggie and his wife Stephanie have two
children: Alexis and Maximus. Reggie works as a commercial
property appraiser, working on nationwide accounts. |
