Rick Suder was one of the best pure
marksmen in Beaver County basketball history. His sweet shooting
touch was a highlight on arguably Center’s best ever cage team, and
he continued his impressive career at Duquesne University. Center went 22-6 in Rick’s junior year, the most wins ever by
a Trojan squad, and Rick earned All Section honors. Rick set school records for free throw shooting in a
game (12 for 12) and consecutive foul shots made (23) his senior
year. He scored 40
points in a win over Montour and was named Las Vegas Nike Prep
Classic All Tournament when Center won three of its four games in
that national tournament. Rick was All Section as a senior and was
named to the Post-Gazette Fabulous Five and the Pittsburgh Press
Finest Five. He finished his high school career with 1231 points,
ranking him third on Center’s all time scoring list. Rick was also
the school’s first ever participant in the feature game of the
Roundball Classic. He took his All State honorable mention to
Duquesne University, where he won the Chuck Cooper Award as the
team’s Outstanding Underclassman as a sophomore. As a junior, Rick
as the second leading scorer in the Atlantic 10 conference,
averaging 17.7 points per game and was named to the All Conference
squad. His senior season saw him lead the Atlantic 10 in scoring
with 20.4 points per game, and he received recognition as a team MVP award and
on the All Conference
team. Rick finished his college career with 1459 points, ranking in
the top ten in Duquesne University history, and secured season and
career free throw records, averaging a gaudy 91.8 percent his senior
season and 88.5 his career. Rick was named to the Duquesne
University Hall of Fame in 1994. Rick moved to Indianapolis, where
he was self employed with professional athletes in various
capacities, including charitable work. |
