Harold M White was associated with
the Hopewell Area Midget Football program for 32 years as a founder,
assistant coach, equipment manager, president, and vice president,
and in addition was active in forming the Viking Fieldhouse
Committee that raised money for the new fieldhouse that served all
sports at Hopewell Memorial High School. Harold was selected as the
Aliquippa Chamber of Commerce Sportsman of the Year in 1978 and
was also a member of the Board of Directors of the Hopewell Midgets
and a member of the Hopewell Quarterbacks and the Let There Be Light
Committee. Harold was a conductor for the Aliquippa & Southern
Railroad and a World War II Army veteran. Known in sports
circles as Whitey, Harold was 73 at the time of his death on March
6, 1989, and was involved with sports and recreation in Hopewell
Township for more than 35 years. Harold died between his election to
the Beaver County Sports Hall of Fame and his formal induction, but
he was aware that his long service to Beaver County athletics was
being recognized.
