native Anthony Dorsett Jr is the newest Super Bowl
veteran to be inducted into the Beaver County Sports
Hall of Fame. Anthony played
wide receiver and cornerback his senior year for J.J.
Pearce High School outside of Dallas, Texas, where he
was named Honorable Mention All-District. Anthony
returned to Western Pennsylvania to play safety at the
University of Pittsburgh for the 1992 to 1995 regular
seasons, where he lettered all four seasons after being
redshirted as a freshman. Anthony finished his college
career with 80 tackles, 14 passes defended, 3
interceptions, a sack, and a fumble recovery. Anthony
was selected to play in the prestigious Blue-Gray
All-Star Classic in December 1995 and the East-West
Shrine Game in January 1996.
Anthony also had success at Pitt in
track and field, winning the IC4A 55-meter dash with a
time of 6.28 seconds in 1995, running second leg on
Pitt's 4x100m relay team that won the 1995 Big East
championship, and helping set Pitt records in the 4x100
and 4x200 meter relay.
The Houston Oilers selected Anthony in
the sixth round of the 1996 NFL draft. Anthony was with
the team from 1996 to 1999, as the team changed names
and locations from the Houston Oilers to the Tennessee
Oilers to the Tennessee Titans. In 2000, Anthony was the
starting free safety for Tennessee in Super Bowl XXXIV.
From 2000 to 2003, Anthony played for the Oakland
Raiders and was their starting safety in Super Bowl
XXXVII in 2003. Over his eight-year NFL career, Anthony
played in 118 games, finishing his career with 22 passes
defended, 3 interceptions, 2 interceptions returned for
a touchdown, 2 forced fumbles, 3 fumble recoveries, 2
sacks, and 212 solo tackles.
Following his football career, Anthony
won the Millrose Games Super 60 60m dash in 2010 and
placed second in 2011. Anthony has appeared in multiple
entertainment venues, such as hosting BET's MADD Sports,
starring in the 2008 film "Losing Faith", and hosting
The Dorsett Daily with Anthony & Kip on One Life Radio.
Anthony's mentoring and training has included the
Champions 2 Heroes program.
Anthony joins his father,
Tony Dorsett, in the
Beaver County Sports Hall of Fame. Anthony currently
resides in Dallas, TX, with his son Hawke Anthony
Dorsett. |
